What is Therapeutic diet?
The diet related to different lifestyle diseases is therapeutic diet. Various lifestyle diseases like obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, arthritis etc. We can control the disease through proper balanced nutritious food. A person having overweight as well as any disease can be cured through proper diet.
Obesity is the global issue now a day. It is a mother of all lifestyle diseases. So, first we have to control the gain in weight and then we can cure the disease gradually.
Obesity: - Calorie imbalance like more input and less output will lead us to the obesity. Apart from this inheritance, less physical activity, eating disorders will lead us to obesity. We have to control it with the proper balance of carbs, protein & fats in our diet.
High Blood Pressure: - Fast life, stress, improper eating & sleeping habits, overweight, lack of exercise are the main reasons for high BP. We can control it by restricting sodium intake and proper foods which are helpful to control high Blood Pressure.
Diabetes Mellitus:- It is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Diabetes is due to the pancreas not producing either enough insulin, or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin produced.
There are three types of Diabetes mellitus:-
Type 1:- Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM) or “Juvenile Diabetes.”
Type 2:- Non-Insulin dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM) or “Adult Onset Diabetes.”
Type 3:- Gestational Diabetes which occurs during pregnancy. Prevention & treatment involves a healthy diet. Physical exercise, not using tobacco, and being a normal body weight.
Cholesterol:- It is a fat-like substance that’s found in all cells of the body. Cholesterol travels through your bloodstream in small packages called lipoproteins. These packages are made of fat (lipid) on the inside and proteins on the outside.
Two kinds of lipoproteins carry cholesterol throughout your body.
(1) Low density lipoproteins LDL
(2) High density lipoproteins HDL
What is High Blood Cholesterol?
It is a condition in which you have too much cholesterol in your blood. People with high cholesterol have a greater chance of getting coronary heart disease.
By controlling specific food and giving right food along with exercise is the key to control high blood cholesterol.
Arthritis:- It is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints. There are over 100 different forms of arthritis. The most common form, osteoarthritis is a result of trauma to the join, infection of the joint or age.
Most types of arthritis are caused by a combination of several factors including genetic makeup a physically demanding job, certain foods obesity, infection or allergies. We can control Arthritis by losing weight which gives extra burden on joints. Correct foods play a positive role in preventing Arthritis.
So, we have to deal with lifestyle disease with balanced & nutritious food along with some physical activity proper diet & Exercise is the key to live quality life in this modern age.
